Using laminate bevel edging with high def laminate and a karran under mount sink you can easily fool the casual eye. Water gets in there swells the mdf and warps your countertops. The same goes for the sink. I love the process that karranhas developed to enable countertop fabricators to undermount sinks on laminate tops.

Counterseal is one system not sure if there are others. Using an under mount sink would expose the core and could result in water damage to the countertops if the core absorbs water and moisture from the sink. Squeeze out of solid surface adhesive is critical to a good seal. The sink installs flush to the laminate not below the surface of the counter to prevent water from soaking into the particleboard.

Are farmhouse sinks worth it. Unfortunately undermount kitchen sinks don t mesh with all countertop materials. Undermount sinks install on laminate counter tops differently than on granite or stone. Because the mdf under laminate countertops gets ruined when it gets wet you can t install a normal undermount sink.

The edge of standard mounted sinks can get icky from food build up and other grime. Clean the laminate as specified by the laminate manufacturer. Under mounting works with stone and non wood counters since little damage will result from any minor leaks between the sink and underside of the counter. There are no special care requirements for undermount sinks in laminate countertops.

Because these sinks tend to be deeper and weigh more especially with a sink full of dishes they require solid weight bearing and water resistant countertop materials. Just because it is undermounted it doesn t mean that either component requires more careful maintenance. Without a seal on the edges of the opening under mounting in laminate is going to result in moisture failure around the sink. If you re pairing a farmhouse sink with a laminate countertop you will have to use a topmount sink since laminate countertops aren t compatible with undermount sinks.

We always put a bucket of glue on top of our sinks and let it sit over night to help bonding of laminate to the sink rim. This means an entirely different mounting procedure is necessary for an undermount sink with laminate countertops. It is not recommended to use under mount sinks with laminate.
